Go back to my own project-questionnaire

Recently, I was doing questionnaire to investigate the illustrations and patterns on homewares. I did two questionnaires, one is Chinese version, for Chinese people, the other is English version, for British people and people in the UK. There are just slightly changes between the two version, according to the habits of people in different background. For instance,in China, we don’t have very particular and famous homwears brand, so I put the question in Chinese version ‘Do you have particular homewares brands you prefer ’instead of ‘what is your favorite homewars brand?’. While, in English version, I list Cath Kidston, Missoni and Monsoon, the three brands to be chose by people.

In addition, I made some mood boards for better understanding Chinese folk art to help people make decision. However, when I tried to update the mood boards I made on the English website, I failed, again and again. So I have to choose the other pictures to update. I chose some typical images can express Chinese folk art as well. This is the other different between Chinese version and English version.

Please open these two websites to find my questionnares, the first one is English version, the letter one is Chinese version. If you can help me to complete the questionnaires I will be very appreciate  (*^__^*)……

At last, I would like to say thank you to all my friends who helped me, supported me to complete this questionnaire! Thank you guys!!!

Meeting with Children’s Book Illustrator Sarah McConnell

This Tuesday’s tutorial, our group was very happy to met children’s book illustrator Sarah McConnell, she was very kind and told us a lot about her work. And we are much honored to see the examples of her works. It’s very clear to see a birth of a children’s book, from original sketches, dummy books, and final artworks to the published books. Sarah said it’s important to give the characteristics for the objects your drawing. To this end, I noticed her draw a lot of sketches to explore the characteristics of the characters of her books, which makes the characters from her books very vivid and attractive. I am thinking my own project, although I am not doing children’s book illustration, but I can give my artworks characteristics and soul as well. It need amount of research and experiments, which I am doing now, I will keep this principle in my mind since now.

When Sarah answered the question that “how can you make your own artwork different and outstanding from other people’s artwork?” She said, after a long period of drawing and experiments, she gradually can grasp the way of her particular drawing, which makes her work different from the others. I realized it’s quite important to accumulate the hard work you made, Sarah did a lot of work about drawing, research, observation, practice and so on. And her worked as illustrator for 10 years!  “Keep moving on” I told to myself.

Well, I gradually noticed the more we learn, the more we know, and the more we unknown as well. Maybe, it’s not so important about what you learnt; I mean, it’s much more important to know who you are and where you are, and what exactly you want to be. When you more clear about these questions you learnt more. The MA course offers us the fabulous chance to think and to arrange these questions, they are like a guideposts, to ensure we are going on the most appropriate roads…

Moodboards – explore the main colour

For the sake of finding the most appropriate colour of my project – it must reflect Chinese culture and Art Nouveau, it must be adorable by 25-35 years old middle-class people, and it must be suitable for household design. I’ve made blue, red, yellow, green and the others mood board respectively.

Traditional Chinese products which include porcelain, paper cutting, fabric, homewares and inertial design, and Art Nouveau products and images, as well as contemporary western homeware design are made for the mood boards’ development.
